so, this is how TV works

Posted by chelle at 08:11 AM on May 10, 2007.

i only went there to see a glimpse of how tv production works. i mean, the directing, shooting, etc.

and true enough, i did witness and learn a lot.

yesterday, sir von, one of the pinoy big brother staff in manila went here to cebu. along with abs-cbn cebu, they shoot some videos for dionne. you see, dionne is once again nominated for eviction. and as part of their job in pbb, they are going to create some tv campaign materials to help save the nominees.

he already went to iloilo the other day. he just FLEW (thanks uzi!) in cebu yesterday morning and eventually left last night.

what a busy life he had! he barely had some time to rest or eat. well anyway, he loves his job..

so, mau toh.. suya kaayo ko! as in! i've always wanted to work in a production team. and working on tv, even just behind the scenes would be like a dream come true to me.

we're on a moving van, travelling around to cebu to shoot some pictures and videos for the dionne campaign. getting people to join in the video. getting interviewed on camera. watching how kuya von directs each scene or shoot. retaking and retaking..

yesterday was just a glimpse. and it was loads of kapoy and lingaw. how much more if you're on the job na.

kuya von said their job is mahirap pero masaya. there are times daw that people, heads and fans alike shout at you or something. and there's nothing you can do but absorb all their reactions. you can't possibly answer them back because as part of the staff, you show respect. both to fans and heads alike. plus, you get to meet some people with different personalities. and you just have to adjust with them so you can work well with them. then, there's that challenge of learning almost everything. kuya von writes scripts, directs some episodes, shoots and edits some videos. its like if you know a lot of things, you have an edge over the others. with so much knowledge and know-hows, you become an asset to the company.

hahay.. someday, somehow.. i'll be there. i'll be one of them...

blank

Posted by chelle at 09:48 PM on May 5, 2007.

yes, you read that right...

that's why i don't get to update my blog.. because im blank.. my mind is blank..

everytime i visit my site and start to write an entry, nothing comes out..

so for now, allow me to tell tale what ive been doing this summer.. what's keeping me busy and all..

so here i go.

first. trip to manila. as some of you may have heard, our family spent the early days of our summer in manila.. mommy's celebrating her 25 years as a career woman.. and she wants to celebrate it this way.. so, off we go to manila.. trying to ward off from the busy life of cebu.. only to find out, manila is twice as busy.. hehehe.. nevertheless, we enjoyed our trip there.. we were never home.. one day after the other, off we go to another destination.. we arrive late and leave early.. still, we didn't get to explore the whole of manila in two weeks. dili makaya! hehehe.. basta, we had loads of fun.. along with my family, that means we got to bond too!

second. pr works summer job. this was my first official summer job. i mean, really job.. summers back, i do summer jobs.. but that refers to running errands for my mom, etc.. this summer, i get to be employed in a real company.. well, as for this job.. we're like uuuhh.. event coordinators. we contact clients, sponsors, delegates and participants to the ASEAN tourism congress. i was doing well.. but i had to lie.low for quite sometime.. i got busy with lanog.. our masscomm paper. you see, i wasn't able to turn-over the responsibility.. so now, i still have the duty.. so about the job, i had a good time,. i get to come across bigtime businessmen- japanese and other foreigners.. whose names i can hardly read and spell..

third. lanog 3rd revival issue. i spent my whole summer editing, layouting and building up the new image of lanog.. i can't believe im still doing it until now.. oh well. it was the price i have to pay. as ive said, i wasn't able to hand the duty. it slipped off my mind.. got busy kasi. so here i am, persuading mass comm peeps.. asking for their help.. letting them write articles.. most of the lanog writers are incoming 4th year.. and they're busy with their internship. so i cant possibly tap them. so i have to ask my blockmates and the incoming 2nd years to write the articles.. so far, so good. ive been extending deadlines for like the nth time. but anyway, i understand.. even i feel tired about this lanog thing already.. hehe..

fourth. ngo and lgu workshop. photog workshop. with my partner, en-en.. we're now organizing a seminar workshop on information production for all LGUs and NGOs.. and a PHOTOG workshop.. (if anyone is interested, please leave a comment.. and a contact info, if possible).. its gonna be on may 28-june1.. these two events will happen on the same date.. well yeah, i dont know what got into sir marx.. he merged all the dates.. goodluck.. so anyway, right now.. sir marx is busy with whatever he's busy with.. he felt he can trust us to do the job for now. anyway, registration won't be until the third week of may. so, right now, what were doing is info dissimenation.. so guys, help me out here ha!

fifth. gsp training officer. once a girl scout, always a girl scout.. true.. ive graduated from marching, morse codes and etc.. two years ago. yet, here i am.. waving the flag to send a message to the gsp leader trainees. i dont know but something just drags me back into this.. maybe, it was my way of saying thanks to girl scouting. after all, i became strong physically and emotionall through gsp. my gsp experience is totally overwhelming.. one thing why i volunteered to do this thing again is that next year, i wont be doing this anymore. ill be so busy with internship. and the year after next, hopefully, ill be finding a job, or better yet, working already..

sixth. bike training. ive always been wanting to do this. its just that the bike doesn't seem to like me. and besides, there's always that fear of me falling down or crashing towards the ground. so, i just passed the thought. but when i found out that all of my cousins and my two siblings already knew how to bike.. i felt reenergized. omigish! ako nalang wala kahibaw! so there, i did my best and learned the craft. hehehe.. true enough, i learned fast. lahi jud if passion nimo sah? but right now, n-stop pako ug bike. my bro's brakes weren't fixed yet. hehehe..

seventh. getting a life. coz i wont be having this much when school starts.. well, that depends. after all, im still a social being..

so far, so good.. ive been having a productive summer..

but, for now, it has to end here pa.. but there so many things i still have to accomplish before the summer ends.. i do hope i get to tick everything in my checklist..

happy summer..

guess who's joining PBB 2?

Posted by chelle at 12:00 PM on March 3, 2007.

No, its not me..

It's a close friend.

We're so proud of her. She's now one step closer to her dreams. She made it to PBB season 1 before, but she declined. She wants to focus on her studies first. But it seems like PBB was meant for her because during the season 2, she was again given the chance. This time, she grabbed the opporunity. And we couldn't be much happier for her.

But then again, we'll miss her so much! After this reality show, we'll be seeing less of her for we are sure, she's on her way to stardom. She'll be a national TV personality by then.

She hadn't entered the blue and yellow house yet. Right now, she's housed in a hotel. She'll be introduced when the right time comes. Accoridng to her, she's got a secret mission to fulfill just yet.

Goodluck to her.

Our best wishes to you lovable sweetheart! Mwah! We love you!

passionate dreams, bleak future?

Posted by chelle at 11:54 AM on March 3, 2007.

I'm in my second year as a Mass Comm student. Yet I having second thoughts about my course. There are times when I ask myself, "Naa kaha ko'y kapadulngan ani after graduation?" "Do I have future in Mass Comm?"

I've heard so many things about this course. You have less job opportunities, you won' be earning much and the others. This why sometimes I doubt whether I made the right decision or not, whether I've chosen the right career path.

But it's not long before I realized that I made the right decision. On February 21-24, we celebrated our Mass Communication days. Revolving on the theme, "Mass Comm Graduate: Asa ka padung?", the four-day affair was filled with activities aimed to answer this question.

We invited several UP Cebu Mass Comm alumni who can share to us their experiences, their lives after graduation and what kind of jobs they landed in. It's quite surprising to know that almost none of our alumni have the exactly the same jobs. This goes to show that as Mass Comm student, one is not limited to reporting, juornalism and advertising.

Take for example, Narsheen Artiaga. She's now working for the Cebu City Mayor - meaning in the City Hall. She's part of the Mayor's Management Team. During the ASEAN summit, she was the head of the Media Tours committee. Odinah Sargon, on the other hand, landed as an event organizer for Vudu and Formo. Sunshine Mauro now seats a high position in a call center company. Jeanette Japzon is the public relations manager for a certain company.

However there are also some who stuck to what is usually expected from a Mass Comm student.Randy Gorion and May Macapobre are radio broadcasters and reporters. Kara Noveda is now TV reporter and an editor of a local daily. Also, Narsheen is working as a correspondent for another local daily.

With all the thoughts shared by these people, I realized that as a Mass Comm student, I have thousands of job placements to explore, that I have many career paths I can choose. It's actually one course wherein upon graduation, there are many options to take.

Indeed, there are so much in stored for Mass Comm students. More so because we're from UP. That gives us the edge over the others. People have always believed in the capability of UP Mass Comm students.

But just as Ms Jeanette said there are actually no problems as to finding a job. The difficult thing is keeping the job. Thus, continue to pose a big challenge for us Mass Comm students.
